Taba is the main border crossing between Egypt and Israel and the only one open to foreigners. There are a number of high-end hotels and also many simple beach camps along the road to Nuweiba. Off the coast from Taba is Pharaoh Island with an old fort. Located just south of Taba is a protected area on 3590 sq. km.

Although most of Sinai was returned to Egypt by Israel in 1982, Taba was the last portion to be given back after a long dispute in 1989.
| Getting there and around
There is a ferry service between Taba and Aqaba in Jordan across the Red Sea. Taba is connected to Cairo and the other Sinai Red Sea resorts by a public bus service, as well as private micro-buses and taxis. There is an airport outside of Taba receiving international and domestic flights. You should organize transport from the airport to your hotel before arriving – you can either ask your hotel to do it or use another service.
